B2705 Pro-Series Base

The deep bottom drawer is the reason to look closely at the B2705 Pro-Series Base. At 4-5/8 inches high internally, it makes room for items that cannot fit comfortably in the shallow drawers of a machinist chest. Above it are one shallow full-width drawer and three smaller drawers.

Gerstner identifies the B2705 as a companion for both the 2610 Journeyman and 2613 Pro-Series chests. That lets you keep the drawer arrangement of the chest and add a second kind of storage below it. Check the dimensions of the complete stack and the surface supporting it; the base alone is 27-1/4 inches wide and 13-1/2 inches deep.

The front panel locks across the drawers. When open, it stows beneath the bottom drawer, leaving the drawer bank unobstructed. A flat felt-lined top provides the surface for the chest, or a useful place to set materials when the base is used by itself.

The B2705 is the factory-finished five-drawer base. The B2704 Journeyman Base DIY Kit has four drawers, a shallower case and a different lower-drawer height, and it requires assembly and finishing. Those practical differences matter more than the similarity in the model numbers.

American Cherry is supplied with brass hardware and brown felt. Golden Oak and Natural Walnut have nickel hardware and green felt. Each is a complete factory configuration rather than a mix-and-match selection of wood, hardware and lining.
