1600 Tote Case – DIY Kit

Build the 1600 Tote Case yourself from Gerstner’s pre-machined wood parts. The finished piece is a lidded carrying case with a removable tray—a simple layout for tools or hobby supplies that do not need to be divided among a bank of drawers.

The tray keeps smaller items together and lifts out to open the space below. A handle on the lid makes the finished tote easy to pick up, while the narrow rectangular form suits a modest working set. The completed case measures 16 inches wide, 5-3/4 inches tall and 8 inches deep; for longer items, check the internal measurements rather than relying on the outside width.

The work is part of the purchase

This is an assembly and finishing project, not a completed case in a box. The joinery is pre-machined, but you still need to fit the pieces, assemble the case, sand it and apply the finish you want. Plan for finishing and drying time as well as assembly. Photographs of the completed tote show the intended result; the parts images show where the project begins.

Guid Wark’s current 1600 kit is White Oak. It is a specific manufacturer-supplied kit, not a mix-and-match builder for the woods, hardware and linings found elsewhere in the Gerstner range.
