J1001 Just Right Box – DIY Kit

The J1001 DIY Kit turns Gerstner’s small Just Right Box into a woodworking project. The parts are pre-machined for the joinery, leaving you to assemble and finish the box yourself. The completed piece has the same basic two-level layout as the assembled J1001: a top well beneath the lid and one shallow drawer below.

Finished dimensions are 9-3/8 inches wide, 6-1/2 inches high and 6-1/2 inches deep. It is a compact project, but the size of the box does not tell you how long the build will take. Assembly, fitting, sanding, finishing and drying time all belong in the plan.

Once it is built, the top well gives taller small items their own space while the drawer handles flatter pieces. Check the internal dimensions against what you intend to keep in it rather than assuming a particular item will fit.

Guid Wark’s current kit choices are Cherry, White Oak and Walnut. They are separate manufacturer-defined kits, not a way to assemble arbitrary combinations from the finishes, hardware and felt used on Gerstner’s completed boxes. If you would rather skip the project and use the box immediately, the assembled J1001 is available separately.
